CALEDONIA HERITAGE FESTIVAL

SEVENTH ANNUAL CALEDONIA HERITAGE FESTIVAL

The final preparations are underway for the seventh annual Caledonia Heritage Festival presented by the Caledonia Historical Society at the Caledonia Historical Village just east of Hwy 38 on 5 Mile Road.  The buildings are cleaned and sparkling, the benches are freshly painted, the tents are being raised, the CHS members are excited and invite everyone to join them on September 9th and September 10th from 10 am to 4 pm for a “Back to the Past” journey.  This historical adventure and the parking are free, but we would appreciate a $5 donation to help the CHS support the village.

The family-friendly event is an educational opportunity that features living history from the mid-1800s when Caledonia was first being settled. Learn from the descendants of these early Caledonians as they share their ancestors’ stories. Tour the 1840s Ruud Cabin, the 1877 Caledonia Town Hall and visit with the village blacksmith at the Myers Museum. The Historical Village also includes the 1902 Milwaukee Road Depot, a 1927 Caboose and a pre-1900 machine shed. All buildings will be staffed with docents to answer questions.

Civil War cannon demonstrations are provided showing both sides of The War of Rebellion in the 1860s. Civil War reenactors in period correct costumes will be available to answer questions both at the battlefield and at their camps.

Numerous children’s activities will be offered including games and activities from the mid-1800s.  There also will be numerous craft and food booths. There will be a bake sale in the 1902 Depot and a homemade pie auction on Saturday at 2 pm. An outdoor non-denominational church service will be held Sunday at 9 am.

Come join us and immerse yourself in the local history!

CHS AND CHV HAPPENINGS!

WHAT IS THE CHS AND THE CHV?

The Caledonia Historical Village (CHV) located on 5 Mile Road just east of Hwy 38 is owned and operated by the Caledonia Historical Society (CHS).  The Caledonia Historical Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit, and all members are volunteers.  Therefore all renovations, all maintenance, all activities at the Caledonia Historical Village are undertaken by those volunteers.  All funding of those renovations, maintenance and activities is through donations, grants, membership and fund raising.

THE CHS AND THE CHV ARE GOING TO BE TV STARS!

On August 16th John McGivern and his producer and camera crew visited the Caledonia Historical Village.  John hosts the weekly show “Around the Corner” on Milwaukee PBS.  One of his programs to be shown in March, 2018 will feature the Caledonia and Wind Point area including the CHV!  John also told us that his program has been picked up for world wide distribution through the public broadcast system.

THE SEVENTH ANNUAL FESTIVAL IS ALMOST HERE!

The CHS annual Heritage Festival will be September 9th and 10th.  Our theme is “Back to the Past” and we are hoping individuals with local family history will be willing to present a brief family memory or tradition or local story.  If you are interested in doing this, please contact Chuck Miles at caledoniahistoricalvillage@gmail.com.  As always there will be food vendors, craft vendors, many children activities, sawmill demonstrations, re-enactor groups, cannon demonstrations and much more!  Don’t forget about the pie auction which will be held on Saturday, September 9th at 2 pm.  Entry and parking is free, but please consider making a donation to help CHS continue to collect and disseminate Caledonia history.
