TWENTIETH YEAR PICNIC

The Caledonia Historical Society(CHS) became official as a 501(c)3 in 2003.  The CHS has been striving for twenty years to preserve and disseminate local history.  The Caledonia Historical Village(CHV) started with the move of the 1877 Town Hall to the CHV.  The CHV now includes the 1902 Sturtevant Milwaukee  Road Depot, a 1927 Caboose, a 1840 Log Cabin, a 1900 Machine Shed, a Museum built on the grounds, and various small buildings and numerous artifacts.

In celebration a picnic will be held at the CHV on Sunday, July 30th at 12:30 pm.  All current and former members  and their families are invited.  Please bring a dish to pass.

BREWTOWN CRUISERS 42ND ANNUAL CAR SHOW AT THE CHV

The Brewtown Cruisers will be holding their 42nd annual car show on September 9th from 10 am to 4 pm at the Caledonia Historical Village.  All makes, models and years are welcome.  The car registration fee is $15 with dash plaques given to the first 100 cars.  Cars 30 years and older will be judged.

Music will be by Slick Rick.  There will be a 50/50 raffle.  Visit the Botting Shed to find crafts, bake sale, food and drinks for purchase.

All of the historic buildings will be open with docents available to answer questions.  Admission is free.  A donation will be suggested for parking.  All funds raised by the CHS will be used to maintain the grounds and the buildings.

 

May 21st, 2023 CHS Spring Fling

Come to the Spring Fling at the Caledonia Historical Village, just east of Hwy 38 on 5 Mile Rd from 10 am to 4 pm.  Admission and parking are free but donations are requested to help maintain the historic buildings.  All of the buildings will be open with docents.  The Dulcimer Group will provide live music from 1 pm to 3 pm.  There will be a bouncy house, rope making, and face painting.  There will be a bake sale, and hot dogs, popcorn, and soda will be available for purchase.

Caledonia Historical Society Christmas Bake Sale And Art in the Cabin

The Caledonia Historical Society is holding a Christmas Bake Sale on December 2nd from 4 pm to 7 pm, December 3rd from Noon to 7 pm and December 4th from Noon to 3 pm at the Caledonia Historical Village located at 7330 5 Mile Rd, Racine, just east of Hwy 38. 

The Christmas Bake sale will be held in the 1877 Town Hall.  Cookies available will be snickerdoodles, cut out cookies, peanut butter, chocolate chip as well as nut and rhubarb breads, nut brittle, cupcakes, gluten free cupcakes and cinnamon rolls.  There will also be hand craft items such as wreaths and door hangings.

Artist Sherry Lou will be holding a Christmas Gift Boutique in the 1840 Cabin at the same time.  There will be jewelry, handmade ornaments, wood crafts both indoor and outdoor, and much more.

All proceeds from the bake sale benefit the Caledonia Historical Society, and a percentage of the boutique sales will benefit the Caledonia Historical Society.

Caledonia Historical Society Meeting

The Caledonia Historical Society monthly membership meeting will be held Thursday, November 17th at 6:30 pm at the Franksville Park, 9614 Hwy K.

Mary Ellen Hintz, a CHS member, will be providing a brief presentation about the US Constitution’s relevancy historically and presently.  Hand-outs will be available that can be used to expand everyone’s knowledge of the US Constitution.

Brewtown Cruisers Mercury Car Club Show

The Brewtown Cruisers Mercury Car Club featuring 1949-1951 Mercury and Lincolns in conjunction with the Caledonia Historical Society will be holding their 41st annual car show on September 10th at the Caledonia Historical Village.

The Caledonia Historical Village is located at 7330 5 Mile Rd, just east of Hwy 38.  The car show will take place from 10 am to 4 pm with awards given out at 3 pm.

There will be BBQ style food, a beer tent, a 50/50 raffle and a live DJ spinning 50s and 60s music.  There will also be a bake sale, and the historic buildings in the Caledonia Historical Village will be open with docents.

Admission is free.  Donations to the Caledonia Historical Society will be gratefully accepted.

The Caledonia Historical Society will be hosting an open house at the Caledonia Historical Village on Sunday, August 21 from 12 pm until 4 pm.  All the buildings will be open with docents.  The Village is located at 7330 5 Mile Rd, just east of Hwy 38.

David Curran will be on the grounds with a display of muskets from both sides of the Civil War, both original and reproduction. His display is in honor of his grandfather, a Union Civil War Veteran.

There is no open house on September 18th as the buildings will be open on September 10th during the Brewtown Cruisers Car Show.

Admission is free but donations are appreciated towards the maintenance of the historic buildings.

GHOSTS OF THE RACINE COAST

The Caledonia Historical Society is pleased to announce a presentation by Brendon Baillod speaking about Racine’s undiscovered historic shipwrecks. His presentation will take place on May 19th at 7:00 pm at the Franksville Memorial Park, 9614 Hwy K, Franksville.

Mr. Baillod is an award-winning maritime historian and is a frequent consultant on historic Great Lakes shipwrecks.  He has authored a compendium of over 400 vessels lost in Wisconsin waters.

Mr. Baillod will tell dramatic stories of vessels that sailed out of Racine in the 1800’s, many to oblivion.  He will also describe modern attempts to locate and document the remains of those lost ships.

The public is invited to attend.  Registration is not required and there is no charge.

CHS SPRING FLING MAY 15TH FROM 10 AM TO 4 PM

First open house of the season at the Caledonia Historical Village, 5 Mile Rd and Hwy 38.  Family Fun.  Bouncy House, rope making, corn hole game, hot dogs, popcorn, soda, live music, bake sale, all buildings open with docents.  Admission is free with donation requested for parking.

MAY 11TH CHS FUND RAISER AT CULVER’S ON DOUGLAS

May 11th from 4 pm to 9 pm the Culver’s at 4542 Douglas will donate a percentage of sales to the Caledonia Historical Society (CHS).  The CHS operates and maintains the Caledonia Historical Village.  Whether using the drive-through or dine-in option at Culver’s hand the receipt back to a staff member so that the CHS receives a donation.

Women Of The Civil War

The Caledonia Historical Society is pleased to announce a presentation by Susan Fallon speaking about women of the Civil War.  Her presentation will take place on April 21st at 6:30 pm at the Franksville Memorial Park, 9614 Hwy K, Franksville.

Mrs. Fallon and her family have been involved in re-enacting the Civil War for 35 years.  She has done extensive research to portray the women of the Civil War accurately, both Southern and Northern women. She is a direct descendant of a Civil War veteran on the Federal side.

 She has been involved in several organizations related to Civil War re-enactment and is currently vice-president of the Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.   The Auxiliary encourages patriotism, education, and charitable deeds.

Mrs. Fallon will be wearing one of her uniforms and will demonstrate some of her Civil War clothing.

 The public is invited to attend.  Registration is not required and there is no charge.

Did You Know About the TNT Plant in Caledonia?

Join the Caledonia Historical Society on March 17th at 6:30 pm at the Caledonia/Mt. Pleasant Memorial Park, 9614 Highway K, Franksville to hear the story of how a TNT plant was partially built on 5 Mile Rd in Caledonia.

Clarence Kaplan, a longtime member of the Caledonia Historical Society, will provide the history of the WWI TNT Plant as well as his family history.  Clarence’s great-great grandparents settled in the area in 1871, and the Kaplan family has had a presence in the Caledonia area ever since.

The public is invited to attend.  Registration is not required and there is no entry fee.

CALEDONIA HISTORICAL SOCIETY GUEST SPEAKER FEBRUARY 17TH

GERALD KARWOWSKI LOCAL HISTORY PRESENTATION

The Caledonia Historical Society is pleased to announce that Gerald Karwowski, of Oak Clearing Farm and Museum, will provide a program on local Racine History on February 17th at 6:30 pm at the Caledonia/Mt. Pleasant Memorial Park, 9614 Hwy K, Franksville. 

Mr. Karwowski has collected thousands of items related to the growth and change of Racine County between 1840 and the present.  The collections include books, photographs, documents, displays such as the blacksmith shop and other buildings including the depiction of a pioneer home.

The public is invited to attend.  Registration is not required, and entry is free.

JANUARY 20, 2022 GUEST SPEAKER

The Caledonia Historical Society will meet January 20th at 6:30 pm at the Caledonia/Mt. Pleasant, 9614 Hwy K, Franksville.  The public is invited to join the CHS in welcoming a guest speaker, David Maack.  Mr. Maack will speak about his Native American culture.

Mr. Maack is a traditional dancer and storyteller.  His grandfather was raised on the White Earth Reservation in northern Minnesota, and Mr. Maack regularly visits  there for cultural and ceremonial activities.

This opportunity to hear Mr. Maack speak is free of charge but donations to the CHS are welcome to enable the CHS to maintain the Caledonia Historical Village located east of Hwy 38 on 5 Mile Rd.
