Caledonia Historical Society Posted on April 28, 2018 by Bruce SeidnerSeptember 18, 2021

FUND RAISING

Garage Sale For The Shed!

Put May 12th on your calendar.  The Caledonia Historical Society will be holding a Huge Garage Sale at the Caledonia Historical Village from 9 am to 3 pm.  If you can donate items, please request a donation form at [email protected].  We cannot accept TVs, monitors, CRTs of any kind, entertainment centers, or clothing.  All proceeds will be used to renovate the 1919 Botting Machine Shed.  There will be garage sale items, a silent auction and a live auction.  There will also be food for sale including baked goods. The Caledonia Historical Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit operated by volunteers.

OPEN HOUSES

Real Racine Tour!

The Real Racine Tour of interesting places in Racine County is scheduled for May 5th.  The Caledonia Historical Village on 5 Mile Rd just east of Hwy 38 will be open for visitors with docents available from  9 am to 5 pm.  Hot dogs will be available for purchase as well as baked goods.

Summer Open Houses!

Monthly open houses will begin in May on the 4th Sunday of the month through September.  The buildings in the CHV will be open from 11 am to 3 pm with docents available.  Visit us and tell us your story of Caledonia!

Can You Identify These Items From The CHS Inventory?

Here are two items and two pictures that reside in the CHS inventory without documentation as to what the items are used for and who are we looking at in these large pictures.   The large “masher” was maybe used to make sauerkraut?  If you can identify these items or these people, please use the Contact Us page on this website to share your knowledge.

A Treasure From The CHS Inventory!

This is a 1930s Play Stove.  This Empire Brand toy stove was manufactured by the Metal Ware Corporation in Two Rivers, WI.  The electric stove would have really cooked an array of foods.  The Metal Ware Corporation bought patent rights to the Empire Toy line from the Hughes Electric Company in 1921; by the 1950s metal toy production, including these toy stoves, accounted for nearly half of the company’s annual output.

Come Join Us!

The Caledonia Historical Society meets the third Thursday of every month, and the next meeting is May 17th at 6:30 pm at the 1877 Town Hall in the Caledonia Historical Village just east of Hwy 38 on 5 Mile Rd.

The meetings are open to the public, and everyone is welcome.  Become a CHS member and envelop yourself in the history of Caledonia.  Help CHS spread the word!  Membership forms can be downloaded from the ABOUT page on this website.
