JULY AT THE CALEDONIA HISTORICAL VILLAGE

Caledonia Historical Society Posted on July 2, 2018 by Bruce SeidnerSeptember 18, 2021

Come to the CHS Open Houses at the Caledonia Historical Village!

The Caledonia Historical Society invites everyone to the monthly open houses held the fourth Sunday of the month through September.  The buildings in the Caledonia Historical Village just east of Hwy 38 on 5 Mile Rd will be open from 11 am to 3 pm.  Docents will be available in the buildings to share the history of the buildings and of Caledonia.  Bring the family, have a picnic, enjoy the historic atmosphere.  There are many historic artifacts housed in the buildings, and each building has an interesting history. The open houses are free to the public, but donations are appreciated so that the Village can be maintained.  The Caledonia Historical Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit.

Learn about the history of railroad cabooses from CHS member, John, as these ladies did at the June Open House.

Happenings at the Caledonia Historical Village!

The new Caledonia Historical Village sign was placed at the entrance to the CHV recently.  The CHV is owned and operated by the Caledonia Historical Society.  The CHV is maintained by CHS volunteers, and funding is raised by donations, membership dues, fund raisers and grants.  The latest project is the renovation of the 1919 Botting Machine Shed.  The CHS volunteers are working every Monday and Thursday morning starting at 9 am.  If you can help, come to the CHV and enjoy the comradery while you work.

In June a group of seniors took a bus tour to the Caledonia Historical Village.  They toured the buildings and enjoyed a full course lunch afterwards in the 1902 Milwaukee Road Depot.

Festival!  Festival!  Come Join Us At The Festival!

The Caledonia Historical Society annual festival is the weekend of September 8th and 9th.  The Re-enactors will be there, the blacksmith will be there, the Model T Club will be there, the sawmill demonstrations will be there, the barrel train will be there, the children’s games appropriate to early Caledonia will be there, the Fire Trucks will be there on Sunday, September 9th.  There will be spinning and loom demonstrations.  There will be cannon fire.  There will be food and much, much more.  The Caledonia Historical Village buildings will be open with docents.  If anyone would like to be involved in educating festival attendees about their early Caledonia family history, send an email to [email protected] or use the Contact Us page on this website.

The Garage Sale!

A thank you to everyone who made the Garage Sale on May 12th a great success!  Many CHS volunteers put in many hours to make the Garage Sale happen.  Many donors provided many items for the garage sale, and the community responded even though it was cold and windy. Thank You!
