RAISE THE BARN FUND RAISER!

Come join the Caledonia Historical Society for a night at Miller Park when the Brewers play the Los Angeles Angels on May 3rd.  Game time is 7:10 pm, but first there will be a tailgate potluck at Linwood Park (just east of Hwy 38 on 5 Mile Rd) starting at 4:30 pm.  Hot dogs, Brats and water will be furnished.  Bring your own beverage and a dish to share.

At 5:30 the bus will depart from Linwood Park to take everyone to the ball game.  Tickets are $39 per person with the seats located in the Loge Diamond Box area on the first base side.  If you want to join us for the bus ride but not the pot luck, meet at Linwood Park at 5:30 pm.  For tickets and more information, contact Nancy Nelson at 262 488-1946.  Go Brewers!

FIRST OPEN HOUSE OF THE SEASON!

The CHS will host the first Linwood Park Heritage Village open house of the 2016 season on May 21st. The Caledonia Historical Society is on the Real Racine Open House Racine County tour on May 21st.  Come visit the Linwood Park Heritage Village just east of Hwy 38 on 5 Mile Rd.  Walk the grounds, visit the buildings, be engaged by the docents.  The buildings will be open 12 Noon to 4 pm.

OTHER INFORMATION OF INTEREST!

The CHS annual festival, the Caledonia Heritage Festival, will be held September 10th and 11th, 2016.  Put it on your calendar and save the date for enjoying living history.  Look for more details to come on this site.

Looking for a small museum where you can experience Milwaukee as it developed between WWI and WWII?  The CHUDNOW Museum of Yesteryear is packed full of interesting memorabilia.  It is located at 839 N 11th St, Milwaukee.  For more information call 414 273-1680 or visit chudnowmuseum.org.  Many thanks to the administrator of the CHUDNOW Museum for the donation of railroad related items.

The Caledonia Historical Society meets the third Thursday of every month.   Our next meeting is May 19 at 6:30 pm at the Old Caledonia Town Hall in the Linwood Park Heritage Village, just east of Hwy 38 on 5 Mile Rd.  The meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome.

We have several items for sale to help pay the expenses of maintaining our historic village.   The items include mugs, note cards, the book, “Milwaukee Then and Now,” bricks for the walk way by the Town Hall, and posters of the 1902 Depot.  The form to request bricks is now on this website.   Spring is here so think about renting our historic buildings and/or our historic village grounds for your event small or large. THE LATEST CHS NEWS

Caledonia Historical Society Posted on January 28, 2016 by Bruce SeidnerJanuary 28, 2016

We are still fund raising in order to get that 1919 machine shed/barn on a foundation.  Look for upcoming events for the warmer months.  Plans are in the works to bring back the successful Dinner in the Depot and a live Radio Show.  And mark your calendars for September 10th and 11th when the Caledonia Heritage Festival (previously listed as our Homecoming Festival) returns for another weekend of fun wrapped in historic atmosphere. Watch for updates.

CHS was just notified that the Runzheimer Foundation of Waterford, WI has generously approved a grant for $3000 to pay for the LVL beams needed for the machine shed/barn.  CHS is grateful for the generosity of the Runzheimer Foundation and everyone in the community who has helped with this project.

We have a very few in new condition books of “Journey To A Village, Caledonia 1835-2008” by Nicholas P. Weber.  If you are interested, contact our President, Leroy Schmidt, at [email protected] right away.  The cost is $20.

The Caledonia Historical Society meets the third Thursday of every month.  Starting with the meeting on November 19th, we will meet at the Caledonia/Mt. Pleasant Memorial Park at 9416 Northwestern Ave.   Our next meeting is February 18th at 6:30 pm.  Everyone is welcome.
